Summary

Return to the opulent world of Elfhame, filled with intrigue, betrayal, and dangerous desires, with this first book of a captivating new duology from the #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black。

A runaway queen。 A reluctant prince。 And a quest that may destroy them both。

Eight years have passed since the Battle of the Serpent。 But in the icy north, Lady Nore of the Court of Teeth has reclaimed the Ice Needle Citadel。 There, she is using an ancient relic to create monsters of stick and snow who will do her bidding and exact her revenge。

Suren, child queen of the Court of Teeth, and the one person with power over her mother, fled to the human world。 There, she lives feral in the woods。 Lonely, and still haunted by the merciless torments she endured in the Court of Teeth, she bides her time by releasing mortals from foolish bargains。 She believes herself forgotten until the storm hag, Bogdana chases her through the night streets。 Suren is saved by none other than Prince Oak, heir to Elfhame, to whom she was once promised in marriage and who she has resented for years。

Now seventeen, Oak is charming, beautiful, and manipulative。 He’s on a mission that will lead him into the north, and he wants Suren’s help。 But if she agrees, it will mean guarding her heart against the boy she once knew and a prince she cannot trust, as well as confronting all the horrors she thought she left behind。

This was okay。 After really enjoying The Cruel Prince, I was really excited for this, but it feel a bit flat。 The plot didn't hook me, I found myself falling alseep listening to the audiobook。 I also did not really care for Suren or Oak。 This was okay。 After really enjoying The Cruel Prince, I was really excited for this, but it feel a bit flat。 The plot didn't hook me, I found myself falling alseep listening to the audiobook。 I also did not really care for Suren or Oak。 。。。more

4 starsThis is a great, quick fantasy read。 I liked it as much as the original series, the characters are interesting and the plot keeps you hooked。 The setting is very unique and imaginative。 Did not see the twists at the end coming, Ren and Oak are just as bad ass as Jude。

The adventure of The Stolen Heir takes the form of a quest, crossing from the mortal world and traveling north to the Ice Citadel where Lady Nore is holding Madoc captive in her dungeons。 After stealing Mab’s bones from the bowels of the court of Elfhame, Lady Nore has been using the magic of the dead fae queen’s remains to raise a terrible army。 But she is still bound by oath of fealty to Lady Suren; a word from her could ruin all of Lady Nore’s plans—if Wren can get close enough。 Doing so will The adventure of The Stolen Heir takes the form of a quest, crossing from the mortal world and traveling north to the Ice Citadel where Lady Nore is holding Madoc captive in her dungeons。 After stealing Mab’s bones from the bowels of the court of Elfhame, Lady Nore has been using the magic of the dead fae queen’s remains to raise a terrible army。 But she is still bound by oath of fealty to Lady Suren; a word from her could ruin all of Lady Nore’s plans—if Wren can get close enough。 Doing so will require her to work closely with Oak。 Our protagonists are two damaged children who have spent their lives being used as political pawns and now find themselves on the verge of adulthood。 A true alliance between them could reshape the political landscape of Elfhame, but trust is terribly hard to come by。 more 。。。more

I didn't think, I would be giving this 3 stars。 I waited nearly two months for this to arrive after one Royal Mail incident kinda messed up my TBR pile for a while。 That, paired with my love for the Folk of the Air series, was already sort of setting this one up for failure。 I'm sorry, Holly Black, my expectations were too high!! I just still see Oak as a child, so his "charming" persona 。。。 didn't really work on me? I have a soft spot for him, but I also don't fully see why everyone is supposed I didn't think, I would be giving this 3 stars。 I waited nearly two months for this to arrive after one Royal Mail incident kinda messed up my TBR pile for a while。 That, paired with my love for the Folk of the Air series, was already sort of setting this one up for failure。 I'm sorry, Holly Black, my expectations were too high!! I'm not sure they mix as well as they should。 Which makes the ending a bit confusing。 Overall, I still enjoyed reading this。 It was just a little more tell, not show than I'd like it to be。 Am I still excited for the next one? Yup, it's a Duology! Count me in!! Also the Waterstones exclusives were cute。 Almost made the extra two months wait worth it。 Almost。 。。。more

I really liked it, it was cute but not my favorite。 Felt like the plot was all over the place。 However it had a really good ending that I enjoyed and wasn’t expecting it。 And I hope to see Oak develop more in the next book I felt like he lacked a little in this book。

Tbh i was so excited to start this book but it was shit the only good thing about it was jude and cardan at the end and the little things we got but everything else? shit

Definitely not as good as The Cruel Prince series。 The plot wasn't so interesting, nor the characters, but the world building and the character development was just as good as Cruel Prince。 Still, Suren and Oak can't be compared to Jude and Cardan。 Definitely not as good as The Cruel Prince series。 The plot wasn't so interesting, nor the characters, but the world building and the character development was just as good as Cruel Prince。 Still, Suren and Oak can't be compared to Jude and Cardan。 。。。more

4。75/5 stars So glad to read about the elfhame world。 Love love LOVE Suren! Although, not as badass as Jude, she was realistic and practical, and you just really empathize with her。 I had high expectations for it to be as good as the Cruel Prince series (a whole 5 stars)。 Although it was was great, it just didn’t make the cut for me for it to be a 5 star。I felt like the plot dragged on a little bit and it seemed it needed a little more description。With that said, I still loved the plot twists an 4。75/5 stars So glad to read about the elfhame world。 Love love LOVE Suren! If there had been a few chapters at the start showing oak growing up, this book would've been so much better。 Also, WHERE IS JUDE AND CARDAN。 If there had been a few chapters at the start showing oak growing up, this book would've been so much better。 Also, WHERE IS JUDE AND CARDAN。 。。。more

Suren is the Queen of the Court of Teeth, living in self imposed exile after fleeing to the human world from her mother, the Lady of the Court of Teeth。 She hopes that she can live there until she is forgotten, but the faerie world isn’t willing to let her do that easily。 Her mother is gathering armies against the monarchs of faerie, and Suren is the only one with enough power to make her stop。 I loved this book。 It was unusual in that I started out thinking it was just ok, but the leadup and tw Suren is the Queen of the Court of Teeth, living in self imposed exile after fleeing to the human world from her mother, the Lady of the Court of Teeth。 She hopes that she can live there until she is forgotten, but the faerie world isn’t willing to let her do that easily。 Her mother is gathering armies against the monarchs of faerie, and Suren is the only one with enough power to make her stop。 I loved this book。 It was unusual in that I started out thinking it was just ok, but the leadup and twist at the end made it amazing。 Even though I wasn’t a fan of all of the characters, and a lot of them weren’t very memorable, the plot and Suren, the main character, made it really good。 The twist at the end made it a five star read for me, even though not everything was perfect about it。 I would recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy。 。。。more

4 Stars。Because even though I just recently started reading in Elfhame, I feel like this wasn't as great as the original trilogy。 Did it have all the same things I loved about the OGs? Yes。 Seeing Oak again? AmazingBut maybe the love I harbor for Jude and Cardan and not seeing them in Elfhame in this one is what is missing。 I'll update this if I can figure out what I felt was missing。 4 Stars。Because even though I just recently started reading in Elfhame, I feel like this wasn't as great as the original trilogy。 Did it have all the same things I loved about the OGs? I started this book kind of worried that I wouldn’t like it because Oak is a teenager now and not the little boy from the folk of the air series。 However I am pleased to say that I had no issue adjusting to his age。 I also LOVED the ending to this book and I know for a fact that Jude is going to go FERAL over the court in the second book。 I don’t think I can wait until next year to get my hands on the second book。 The ending really shocked me and I can’t wait to see more Jude and Cardan content I started this book kind of worried that I wouldn’t like it because Oak is a teenager now and not the little boy from the folk of the air series。 However I am pleased to say that I had no issue adjusting to his age。 I also LOVED the ending to this book and I know for a fact that Jude is going to go FERAL over the court in the second book。 I don’t think I can wait until next year to get my hands on the second book。 The ending really shocked me and I can’t wait to see more Jude and Cardan content in the second book。 I also love how confident and powerful wren is at the end。 The last line of the book is what made me scream。 。。。more

Probably shouldn't have read this during exam week coz I was so tired and so wasn't paying the most attention, but I still enjoyed it。 Not so sure about the complete 180 of the main character in the last 50 pages but otherwise I enjoyed the quest storyline and exploring the world。 Probably shouldn't have read this during exam week coz I was so tired and so wasn't paying the most attention, but I still enjoyed it。 Not so sure about the complete 180 of the main character in the last 50 pages but otherwise I enjoyed the quest storyline and exploring the world。 。。。more

Just like always, Holly Black's writing was amazing。I admit that I was a little hard to read about Oak when I could only imagine him as a child, an heir to Elfhame, but still a child。 But has the story went on, I found myself fascinated with everything, especially Wren's character。She developed so much until the end。 I'm still in shock at how this book finished, I can say I was definitely not expecting that。Also the comments made about Jude and Cardan throughout the book where so fun to see and Just like always, Holly Black's writing was amazing。I admit that I was a little hard to read about Oak when I could only imagine him as a child, an heir to Elfhame, but still a child。 But has the story went on, I found myself fascinated with everything, especially Wren's character。She developed so much until the end。 I'm still in shock at how this book finished, I can say I was definitely not expecting that。Also the comments made about Jude and Cardan throughout the book where so fun to see and just made me want to read the folk of air series again。I wish the second book was already out, but for now I have to wait。 。。。more
